Can't you see i'm trying?

So, it's 6am and i'm awoken from weird dreams by pain somewhere in my body. It takes me about ten minutes to realize the pain is being caused by a cramp in the muscle just above my knee cap (quadricept i believe). I lay there massaging the muscle trying to get the pinching to subside. It isn't working, this little guy is determined to contract. I try and ignore it and go back to sleep, nope it isn't going to work. I get up and walk around my house, past the icons, cross myself and bow and continue aimless wander in confined space. Suddenly, it hits me, "Aaron, you haven't been running in quite some time."

So, it's 6:25 and i'm running through the streets of La Habra. I took a route i'd not taken before. Against the flow of traffic on busy Harbor to Whittier to Cypress to La Habra and back up Harbor. As I neared Whittier on Harbor i spotted some fellow pedestrians. Another light bulb on this foggy morning, "I'll be the friendly jogger and say 'good morning!' to these my compatriots."

I draw near to my first victims (an elderly couple), attempting eye contact and i let fly, "Good morning!" And......nothing! Ouch, that hurt. I thought perhaps they were frightened by me. I know i might look a little strange sporting a healthy and thriving beard, running shorts and the obligatory Jagermeister T-shirt. Oh well, i'm going to keep it up. Now it's gone from friendly gesture to desperate experiment. Ah yes my next subject approaches a short half brother of Mr. Miagi. Closer...closer...steady now...hold fast and let fly, but this time i varied it to the more dedicated, "Morning." BOOM! A direct hit! He ate it up with a big smile, waved his hand and mumbled back his greeting. Okay, i have renewed confidence, i can do this. Now i'm eager for my next opportunity. A couple minutes pass and finally my chance comes in the form of a conscientious lawn watering fellow. Again the approach, attempted eye contact fails (he looks at his hose???), and the delivery, "Morning." .......He looks at his stucco house and says....Nothing! Dang, this is rough. I was so hopeful after mini-Miagi. I shake off the shame and resume heavy breathing. I pass a pedestrian and a construction worker, nothing. Just as i begin to despair, i see ahead of me my dearest friend in the world, Mini-Miagi! What does he do??? No wave, no nod, no he gives me two big contorted thumbs up!

Needless to say, save the joy that Miagi brought me i was perplexed. What a strange and disconnected city i live in. It's really a disappointing thing to experience.

Joel, besides stepping on dogs, what are the people like in Bean Town?

Brett and Beniy...sorry it was spur of the moment.
